How NOT To Advertise

If Joe Jaffe had a problem with the 30-second spot, I wonder what he’d say about this pile of crap (courtesy of Big Wil Wheaton and his Amazing Technicolor Moron-Finder):

That’s right, they stopped programming in the middle of dialog to show you an ad (and a hearty screw you to Bill Engvall for going along with this). Guys, I know things like Tivo and MythTV are forcing you to rethink your business model, but as a consumer this is a move more likely to push me towards BitTorrent than your advertisers.

And as a producer, I would be absolutely livid if you threw an ad in between the setup and the punchline of a joke.

That appears to be a television advertisement.

    Haven’t seen that in ages.

Thanks to the iTunes Store, NetFlix, BitTorrent, and Usenet, I haven’t seen one of those in AGES.

But I have to admit, that was pretty crappy. How to guarantee someone WON’T watch your show. Oh, and don’t blame Engvall too harshly. It’s probably in his contract to participate in promo spots for his show.
