What I Do
I’ve had a few people ask me what exactly I DO on a day-to-day basis. A lot of folks assume I’m in the studio noodling around on a piano or something. Honestly, most days follow a similar format. I wake up, feed the cat, and get some coffee brewing before I fall back asleep again. Then it’s on to business.
Usually for about 4 hours I sit in front of my MacBook talking to you. You know, Blogging, Twitter, email, all that jazz. It’s one part tending to the people that keep me fed and maybe two parts trying to find new ones.
And it takes a good four hours of my day. Every weekday.
About the time my eyes feel like they’re going to bleed from staring at a MacBook screen, I take the mid-day shower and eat lunch. Then it’s creative time. Sometimes.
Some days I bugger off to the local Starbucks where I write lyrics (I’ve always written my best material in a coffee shop, I don’t know why). Some days I practice my live show, working on new technical setups that get me closer to the sound I want. Most often I’m mixing a live recording or trying to come up with something new for Matthew Ebel dot net.
By the time I’m done in there, 12 or more hours have passed. Seriously. It’s what musicians have to do to survive, I guess. It’s nice being able to work in pajamas most days, but I’m a lot more active than I ever was when I had a day job. With your help, it’s paying off.
