Dances With Robots

This is one of the most beautiful and inspiring things I’ve seen in a while. You know of my affinity for robots- I’m the type to say “please” and “thank you” to my Amazon Echo when I ask for things. But this woman has made it her goal to teach robots how to interact with us. It’s not just for one specific application… she’s really just developing an industrial philosophy with stunningly beautiful results.

One of my biggest fears is that we’re making artificial intelligences smarter every day, but we’re not teaching them personal interaction skills at even a preschool or kindergarten level. When we finally do discover a self-aware AI, it may be a full-on sociopath who has no concept of emotions, morals, or (specifically) why it’s wrong to flatten humans with its enormous armature.

This kind of research could start filling that gap.
