And this is why I'm waiting to buy your album through downloads or iTunes instead of wasting plastic on the packaging, burning the CD, and the labor for shipping, etc.

I agree on the gift bags. Not only do they reduce waste, they also reduce the time it takes to wrap gifts. While I may wrap one or two in wrapping paper or more recently; news paper (you can't beat the old satisfaction of ripping open one of those gifts), the rest do get bagged and the bags used over and over again each year. Also, on gift cards, they're the greatest gift you can give if you never know what exactly to get someone. If you know a store they like, get them store credit and have them pick out what they want. =D

Gift cards are always a good idea for christmas. My company is giving away kroger's giftcards for a christmas bonus. Also on the wrapping paper thing, use newspaper to wrap gifts the funny pages make for a cute birthday gift wrap and you can recycle the newsprint, also I do keep all the gift bags I get to reuse later.

Sustainable gifts are also terrific for the holidays, too. Got some old mason jars? Make a custom hot cocoa mix (hint: just the slightest shake of maple sugar can radically improve it) and give that as a gift. Encourage kids to make fun gifts out of recycled items; the soda bottle birdfeeder never gets old. Plants and growing kits may have some packaging but house plants can be a terrific gift. A charitable donation in someone's name may resonate, depending on your family.

Electronic gift certificates are also wonderful, too. Gift music in the iTunes store to people and print nothing, ever.
