A New Media Challenge

Blog

Pursuant to my announcement about telling me where you want me to tour, within 24 hours I’m presented with the typical New Media Musician problem. Here’s the map of the 105 people in the Eastern US that responded in the last day:
Eventful Map
Notice the high concentration of fans in… well, in… crap, they’re everywhere. The most that are in any one location, as of now, are 8 people. 8 people isn’t enough to justify the plane ticket or long car ride to get halfway across the US. As much as I’d like to tour everywhere, I can’t afford to go broke.

I have thousands on my email list, but they’re spread out all over the world. Until the concentration is a bit more serious (like, 50 people maybe?) I’m stuck doing online tours only. Which is still fun, but not nearly as fun as having a beer with my fans!

So if you’ve already hit the map, thank you! If you haven’t, please drop a pin right here and tell me where you want me to come perform. When you’ve made your mark, see how many friends would be interested in coming to a show and get them to make their mark as well. With enough help, I’ll be on the road again heading for your town!

  • Ah... I have not used it for creating an event. That isn't obvious on the guest side. Thanks for clearing that up.
  • Mike- Well, the idea behind the demand feature is that, as an artist, I can see where a high concentration of fans are and therefore where more people are likely to show up. When I look at the results in Eventful I can see how many are in a radius up to 200 miles or so, not just in a particular metro area.

So if you put in a Demand for Wellesley, let's say, I'll still see that demand when I do a search for 50 miles close to Boston.

Dwight- Awesome! If you can get enough friends interested in attending a show, it'll help push those numbers up to where I can afford to get out there. I hope to see Canada on one of my tours soon!
  • Well Matt if my numbers come up in the big lottery , I'd be happy to be your patron!
  • Talk to @scottsigler or http://scottsigler.com about how he formulated his book tour.

Part of the problem with Eventful is that you demand for your local town, what if we want to demand for an area? Southern MN, Twin Cities Metro Area MN, Boston Area, etc. Either you will have to do some work and group demands into regions or something like that.

I promise if you come to MN, that I would try my damnedest to be where ever you play.
