Raindrops & Grease Spots
Music and Lyrics © Matt W. Ebel
I can see raindrops & grease spots
outside on the parking lot of this café.
I don’t know for sure, but the man on the radio
said it’ll rain most the day.
Here I am, trapped behind hot cappucinos
just trying to write down a thought,
but now and again I keep staring at raindrops
and I just can’t do what I ought.
Oh no,
I’ve done it again.
I had noble intentions
but stained them with sin.
Please God,
don’t let me get dirty,
I need you to wash me again.
The more the rain gathers, the harder it gets
to see grease spots outside in the dirt.
Though I just keep watching, I
wanna start writing so bad that
it’s starting to hurt.
See I get these notions
like raindrops & grease spots
that keep me from writing my songs.
But somehow I reached the conclusion that
raindrops were better for me all along.
Oh no,
I’ve done it again.
I had perfect intentions
but drowned them with sin.
Please God,
don’t let me get ugly,
I need you to wash me again.
So now my coffee is sitting unnoticed
in front of my vacated chair.
I want to write, but the rain looked so nice
I just had to spend some time out there.
The rain seems to cover me
like it covers the grease spots
and after a while I am drenched.
I open my mouth and, despite all the
coffee and writing,
my thirst has been quenched.
Oh no,
I’ve done it again.
I had noble intentions
but stained them with sin.
Please God,
don’t let me go crazy,
I need you to wash me again.
