Hat tip to Dave Jackson at the Musician’s Cooler Podcast for bringing this up. I am a new media savant for the one major reason everyone keeps repeating: If your brand is everywhere, you increase the likelihood that someone will remember you. Casting a wider net catches more fish, as the osprey say.

<img src="http://matthewebel.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/everywhere-300x300.png" alt="There are messages everywhere." title="There are messages everywhere." width="200" height="200" class="alignleft" align="left" size-medium wp-image-740" />However, the wider net serves a broader purpose. If you’re reading this in a web browser, it means that matthewebel.com is up and operational. One of these days, though, it might disappear. My hosting service might go broke, my domain registrar could screw things up, hackers could plunder the servers… Any number of things might go wrong, but I still want to be able to reach you. I don’t ever want to lose touch with the fans that keep me going.

This is why I am everywhere. If you’re only following me in one place (website, Facebook, email, etc.), that bond could easily be broken. Check out some of the other options at matthewebel.com/contact and see where else you can find me online. Even if it’s someplace I rarely visit, in an emergency I’ll be heading to all of these other places to stay in touch with my fans.

Message me on Facebook. Bump me on The Sixty-One. If you’re slumming, friend me on MySpace. I always love hearing back from you, so please keep your options open if you haven’t already!

I need your help to make this happen!

The Mission:

Here’s the mission— and it’s a very simple one: Get a friend or two to subscribe to High Orbit

All they need is [tag]iTunes[/tag] or [tag]Juice[/tag] or any other [tag]podcatcher[/tag] program. If they’ve got a [tag]Palm[/tag] or [tag]Windows Mobile[/tag] gadget, there are ways to subscribe there as well. Just point ‘em at this page:

www.highorbitpodcast.com/subscribe

If you remember [tag]Operation Horned Horse[/tag], I have to thank everyone who participated. It’s because of your help and your letters that these companies are even interested in the first place. We’re only going to succeed, though, if you can recruit some new listeners!

You see, this is all part of the new music revolution. [tag]Podcasting[/tag] has created new ways for people to hear the recordings, but so far there’s no support for the [tag]live shows[/tag]. If you want your favorite artists to keep [tag]touring[/tag] (without charging $50 per ticket), then help me showcase the best [tag]live performers[/tag] on this planet.

All I need is for you to spread the word and sign people up. Remember- it’s all free, and all you need is a computer.

I’m counting on you!

Just a forethought- this has very little to do with the recent [tag]school shootings[/tag]. This is a thought that formulated last time I headed up to [tag]Fort Campbell[/tag] and saw the familiar buggy-crossing street signs.

I love the [tag]Amish[/tag]. I love the [tag]Mennonites[/tag], I love the [tag]Hutterites[/tag], and I love their way of life. I think these people live a simplicity that I am simply not capable of. I can write, produce, distribute, and promote a [tag]podcast[/tag] in my dining room, but I couldn’t build a barn or milk a cow. This isn’t about the mythical “simple life” either, though, it’s about car bombs and beheadings.

These clusters of [tag]religious sects[/tag] all share a level of rejection of [tag]modern life[/tag]. The Amish in particular are by definition an exclusionary group, yet they live within the borders of a first-world nation. They separate themselves from a culture that surrounds them, and they do it peacefully.

To put it more personally, they believe that my way of life, in many ways, is wrong, but they aren’t trying to blow up my [tag]Starbucks[/tag] to prove it.

This is why I respect and admire the Amish and similar sects like them here in America. They represent a level of religious [tag]devotion[/tag] coupled with social [tag]tolerance[/tag] that defies logic. Could you imagine an extremely conservative [tag]Muslim[/tag] population living peacefully in the center of a [tag]Jewish[/tag] or [tag]Christian[/tag] state? Because of the Amish, I can.

The Amish are not stupid. They know what lies outside the borders of their communities. And they live the way they choose. They do not form political action committees to legislate their way of life upon others. They do not kidnap strippers and cut their heads off to prove a point. When someone from the outside commits a serious offense against their children, the response is one of unlikely [tag]humility[/tag]:

As we were standing next to the body of this 13-year-old girl, the grandfather was tutoring the young boys, he was making a point, just saying to the family, “We must not think evil of this man.”
- Rev. [tag]Robert Schenck[/tag], via [tag]CNN[/tag]

So when I say I love and respect the Amish, it’s not because I bought a quilt that I like. These people give me hope for the future of mankind. If [tag]Christ[/tag] taught humility, these people have learned it. And they can teach others how to live it.
